ADVISING/IMPORTANT DATES:   
Summer Registration is now open:

Fall priority registration began on March 18th.  Students:  Check your My Ohio student center to find your open registration date and schedule a meeting with your academic advisor!
May 3rd:  Graduation at Ohio University Southern
May 4th:  Spring Semester Closing Date, Grades will be available May 9th
May 13: First summer & full summer session opening date
May 17: Last day to register for first summer session
May 24: Last day to register for full summer semester
Jun 28: Last day to withdraw (drop all classes) for first summer session
July 1: Second summer session opening date
July 5: Last day to register for second summer session
Aug 2: Last day to drop a class for second summer session

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID:
Students are encouraged to complete the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible.  Complete the online application at:  www.fafsa.ed.gov   Workshops are available at both Ironton and Proctorville if students need assistance, contact student services. 

PROVOST'S UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FUND
The Provost's Undergraduate Research Fund provides grants of $100-1500  for undergraduate students on the Athens and regional campuses of Ohio University. Grants must be used for expenses related to research, scholarly or creative projects. The 2013-14 guidelines and application form are available on the following web sites:

The application deadline is September 27, 2013.

Annual Bernard L. Edwards Memorial Golf Tournament
Every year, we honor the memory of Bernard L. Edwards, longtime champion for OUS in Ironton and Proctorville. His passion for the links inspired us to host a yearly benefit golf tournament in his name.  This year’s proceeds will go for Ohio University Electronic Media. Electronic Media Southern serves both the campus and the community through integration of classroom training with real world applications.

DINNER AND CONCERT:
The Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship is hosting a dinner and concert featuring musical guest "The 1937 Flood"
Dinner catered by the Scioto Ribber.  Proceeds benefit the Ohio Horse Park Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship. Tickets are $50. Click here to purchase tickets

The Student Nursing Association is organizing walkers for the Ashland march to be held at Central Park on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 9:00am (Registration by 8:00am). Save the date for now if you’re interested! The March of Dimes is an important cause to our Nursing Department at OU Southern and our chapter of the SNA.  We hope to see you then!

Diversity Workshop:  Cross Cultural Communication Workshop
In the world of globalization, various forces such as demographic, cultural, international, and sociopolitical influences shape our future.  So it is imperative that our institutions be proactive in taking steps to promote and prepare for the dynamic days ahead.  Keeping in mind that the concepts of mutual understanding, inclusiveness, and affirmation are guiding principles for Ohio University, this workshop encourages and promotes diverse interactions, cultural competency, and awareness to participants.

Jazz Appreciation Workshop
DATE/TIME: Friday, April 12th at 10am. 
LOCATION: Ohio University Southern campus, in the Bowman
DETAILS:  The workshop is open to students and faculty free of charge.  Tim Warfield will be conducting the workshop. 

JAZZ Alive Concert
Celebrating jazz appreciation month, Jazz Alive Concert includes discussion on the history of jazz and performance by national jazz musicians.  Jazz Alive is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the uniquely American music art form of jazz and its practitioners.  Jazz Alive was founded by three jazz musicians who were graduates of the University of Cincinnati-College of Conservatory Music (CCM), namely Gordon Birsker, Joseph Gaudio, and Donald Carr.  The mission of Jazz Alive is to bring greater appreciation and understanding of jazz from bebop era to present day.

Ironton Arts Council Concert:  Minas Quintet
Quintet with vocals (Brazilian music) from Philadelphia, PA www.minasmusic.com.
Today, Minas is one of the most sought after Brazilian bands in the United States. Warm and engaging, the magical Brazilian sound becomes infectious when bass, drums, percussion and horns are added to Orlando’s classical guitar and Patricia’s cool jazz piano. As a prominent member of the Philadelphia Jazz community, Minas frequently performs their original music in concert, as well as Brazilian standards.
The ensemble’s rich instrumental harmonies, creative solos, and complex layers of percussion, rooted in traditional samba rhythms, provides an evening of uplifting and sophisticated music

Diversity Workshop:  Social Media in our Schools
Ohio University Southern welcomes Ohio University Athens Professor Dr. Richard Moore to a lead a summit on the important topic of social media in our schools.  The 21st century learning environment continues to evolve, and in order to meet the academic and safety needs of our youth, we must stay abreast with the changing culture of communication and information in education environment.  Dr. Moore has recently published the book “Designing Online Learning with Flash”.  Additionally he served as the past President of the Research and Theory Division of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology and serves as editor of the International Visual Literacy Associations’ Journal of Visual Literacy.  This event is open to the public, but specifically targets K-12 teachers, counselors, administrators, and education majors.

Mental Health Expo:
The ACTION Psychology Club will sponsor its annual Mental Health Expo.  The goal of the event is to raise public awareness of mental health concerns and to provide an outlet for agencies in the local area to showcase the services that are available to the community.
