This annual event is held on the Athens campus.  It’s sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in conjunction with several other organizations, including: Student Activities Commission; Black Student Cultural Programming Board; Campus Involvement Center; Multicultural Center; Office of Diversity; Access and Equity; Ohio University M.L.K. Planning Committee; and University Program Council.

Film: “Freedom Riders”
Veteran filmmaker Stanley Nelson's inspirational documentary is the first feature-length film about this courageous band of civil-rights activists. Gaining impressive access to influential figures on both sides of the issue, Nelson chronicles a chapter of American history that stands as an astonishing testament to the accomplishment of youth and what can result from the incredible combination of personal conviction and the courage to organize against all odds.  This documentary is based partly on Raymond Arsenault's acclaimed book Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice.

Diversity Lecture & Performance Series
Ohio University Azaguno Dance Troupe African Drumming and Dance Ensemble
Dr. Paschal Yao Younge & Dr. Zelma Badu-Younge, Directors
Azaguno is a colorful and vibrant Multi-ethnic Ensemble, which focuses on research, preservation, education and performance of traditional African music and dance, African American music and dance and other artistic expressions from the Caribbean and Latin America. The ensemble also creates contemporary intercultural works in new theatrical contexts that fuse the artistic and aesthetic cultural values and resources representative of African experiences in world history. Through the Drum, the Voice, the Dance and other visual art forms and paraphernalia, Azaguno brings to the stage a unique African theatrical experience.

Supporting College Students with Autism
Marc Ellison, Associate Director of Training for the West Virginia Autism Training Center, will be on campus to present “Supporting College Students With Autism.” The W.V. ATC provides education, training and treatment programs for accommodating Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (NOS) and Asperger's Disorder.  By raising awareness and educating professionals on the dynamics of the Autism spectrum, Ellison’s presentation seeks to tear down the barriers that often prevent persons with autism from experiencing equitability and success at the college level.

Diversity:  Central Issues in Appalachia
Subcultural Diversity Workshop – Central Issues in Appalachia is a human development workshop designed to enhance, broaden, and supplement one’s personal understanding of diversity issues that commonly face the Appalachian region.  Topics to be covered span four core content areas:  Religion, Race, Sexuality, and Socioeconomics.  Participants will possess skills and understanding necessary for effectively engaging issues of multiculturalism in both personal and professional endeavors.  The primary objective of this workshop is to raise levels of empathy, tolerance, and multicultural competence.
