Trick Riding

Friday the 26 was the scheduled date for the Apocalypse trick riding demonstration. It started at 7:30 and ended at 9:00. We enjoyed it very much. The main rider is Ian Van Temperley. He was the person that did all of the stunts in several movies including Gladiator, Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Merlin. We found that the trick riding is not a whole lot different than the trick riding seen in the US. He did stunts like Roman Riding and getting the horse to rear. This was impressive however it was the same stunts done in the US. One major difference was the tack. Instead of western type saddles they used Russian trick riding saddles. The style of riding is based on Cossack Horsemen who were grate warriors. The horses used were Andalucian horses. They were between 15 - 15.2 hands high. The reason for using this breed is they are flashy and easy to train. They are also spirited as well. We enjoyed the experience of watching them perform. It was easy to make the comparison to the stunt teams in the US.
