Sunday 28 was Stockmanship. Stockmanship consists of Horses, Sheep, and Cows (dairy and beef). Stockmanship is judged on the way the animal guides, the appearance of the handler and the animal, and finally the knowledge the student has of the animal. The students are given an animal four weeks before the competition in order to train. The student is not allowed to get help preparing the animal for the competition such as bathing, clipping, and braiding (plaiting). This competition is similar to county fairs. The only differences are that stockmanship is only done at Bishop Burton College as a grade. The winner of each class gets a rosette. |
