The above pictures are of the Show Jumping event at the Horse Trials. The home for this event is at Bishop Burton College. We were able to watch this event along with the other two that are included, Dressage and Cross-Country. Cross-Country will be with another set of pictures but we will mention Dressage now. Dressage is done on the flat (no jumps) in a specific size arena. There are set letters around the arena and specific movements are done at the letters, such as shoulder in. We were not able to get any pictures of the Dressage event because we had jobs of being ring stewards. It was our job to make sure that the right person was in the arena at the right time. This got a little tricky with over twenty horses in the make up arena at the same time. We worked there from 7:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. Then we were set free to go and watch Show Jumping. Back to the pictures. Show Jumping is where the horse and rider are in an arena with a set number of jumps. They are expected to get over all of the jumps within a set time. Deductions are made if the horse knocks a poll down or if they refuse a jump. The fastest time with the least amount of penalties wins the event. We were able to watch three students that we knew go through the course. This made it worth while and we truly enjoyed the event.
