National Stud Fertility Lab

Friday was a good day. Well, it started out at 6:00 a.m., but other than that it was a good day. We went with Lindsey and some other equine students, down to Newmarket. Our first stop was at the National Stud Fertility lab. It was interesting to see. We were able to walk through the entire lab and see all of the work that they do. It is the primarily research centre. We were able to see how they are attempting to clone horses and the projects they are doing with embryo transplants from one mare to another. We do want to mention that the facility had a lot of the similar equipment that we have at OU. We were impressed to see that our reproduction facility was so good. We also felt we had been educated well when we walked through their lab and understood what they were talking about. The above picture is of some of the equipment that is used at the research centre. Everything on the table is present at the OU Southern reproduction facility.

Our next stop was at the National Racehorse Museum. The National Racehorse Museum was very interesting. It was neat to see where racing came from and the history behind it. While we were there we were able to ride a mechanical racehorse. That was fun. It reminded us of a mechanical bull. We really enjoyed this trip and we apologise for the lack of pictures on this trip. Many areas did not allow pictures to be taken.
