OK, now to put that into English, arena UK is in Grantham, north of London. It is a massive show facility that is normally home to show jumping events in the UK. The picture on the left is a broad view of the facility. It seemed very similar to some show arenas in the US. Well today it was home to the UK division of the American Quarter Horse Association. It is called AQHA - UK. The second picture is of a Reining horse during his run down and sliding stop. The quality of show horses was of the amateur level. You can see in this picture that his left hind foot is not even with his right hind foot and he is sliding at an angle toward the corner, not a straight line down the arena. Reining is the fastest growing area of western riding in the UK that is due to the growing popularity of the Reining event added into the Olympics. The United Kingdom now has its own team that competes. We would like to note that while this horse is not of the pro level in the US, the Reining horses in the UK seem to have the best quality when compared to the Halter, Pleasure, and Quarter Horse Hunt Seat horses. We had a good day watching and learning. We even got the chance to chat with the judge who happened to be from Texas. |
