Journey to Wholeness
jtw_2006

Psychology 190 F (Journey to Wholeness) was developed to provide undergraduates an opportunity to study social diversity at Ohio University Southern.  Dr. Charles Jarrett created the course to compliment his series of cultural enrichment programs entitled “Gullahs and Geechees of the Sea Islands.”  Journey to Wholeness contrasts a traditional way of life (Gullah culture) and its implications for postmodern America.  Dr. Jarrett introduces students to Gullah culture and language through a research-specific web site designed to implement course learning objectives.

Journey to Wholeness examines the impact of technological and material progress on the human psyche in postmodernist society.  Course objectives include defining the terms postmodern society and "the new means of consumption” as it is defined by George Ritzer in The McDonaldization of Society (2004).  Gullah culture offers a Message for America, a critique of the technological and material influences of postmodernist society.
