The Road to Success - Spring Quarter, 2006

Diversity Task Force
The Ohio University Southern Campus Diversity Task Force was created for the purpose of implementing programs designed to provide opportunities for students to engage in social diversity and cultural enrichment. The Ohio University Spring Quarter, 2006 program was entitled "The Road To Success," a program that featured two motivational speeches within a musical format by JV Collier, Bassist for Grammy Award Winner Bruce Hornsby. JV was joined on stage by student Barry Gillum (keyboards), local guitarist Phil Osborrn, Dr. Pat McCoy (drums/percussion), and Dr. Charles Jarrett (drums/percussion). Diversity Task Force members partnered with Ironton City Schools so that high school and junior high school students would receive JV's inspirational message of success and achievement. JV began both programs with a solo performance, then quickly proceeded to deliver his inspirational message to an attentive audience. Students were spellbound by JV's heartfelt message that success is a matter of discipline, perseverance, engagement, and having a passion for your craft. Students were told not to take advantage of their gift and to work long hours now for the benefits of future success. JV jammed with faculty members and students during both programs and the student mixer that followed each performance. Ohio University has never hosted a more humble, conscientious, and giving guest than JV Collier. Part of the Electronic Media Third Floor will be converted to an audio lab in the name of JV Collier so that students may learn the art of audio mixing and studio recording at Ohio University Southern. Diversity Task Force members include Charles Jarrett, Kim Keffer, Pat McCoy, Don Moore, Deerga Adhikari, Yehong Shao, Barry Gillum, Zebunessa Hassan, and Robert Pleasant. Than you JV Collier for two exciting and meaningful days in our community. For more information on JV Collier see www.jv-bass.com
