OAK ID
Oak is Ohio University’s e-mail system. Your OAK account will be used in many different ways on both the Southern campus as well as the Athens campus. After getting your picture taken for your ID card, it will take 1-3 days to get your OAK ID setup. When Athens creates your account, we will initialize it. You will be notified of your account username and password by an envelope placed in your mail folder in the Faculty Office. The first thing you should do is change your password. Instructions will be provided to accomplish this when you receive your OAK ID information.
Webmail
Once your OAK ID is created and initialized, you may begin using the internet OAK mail system, which is called webmail. Instructions for use will be provided with your OAK ID information. Webmail is accessible from any Internet connected computer in the world.
Southern Network Account
In addition to your OAK ID, you will be provided with information for a network account on the Southern Campus network. This account provides you with the means to access the any “wired” computer on campus, including computers in the smart rooms. You will be required to change your password the first time you use this account. Additionally, storage space will be automatically provided to you on our servers for you to store files as needed. This storage is only accessible from “wired” computers on campus.
